Tim Hill, Vice President of Electrical Engineering & Equity Partner

R.E. Dimond provides:

  • Efficient state-of-the-art lighting
  • Power distribution system design for new buildings
  • Renovation of existing buildings
  • Infrastructure retrofits

Our innovative solutions to any project’s challenges come from a solid foundation of education and experience.

Contractors, architects, and institutions across Indiana and the Midwest can trust R.E. Dimond and Associates for:

  • Medium voltage and low voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Emergency and standby power systems
  • Photo Voltaic Solar design
  • Lighting design — including interior, exterior, sports venues, and theaters
  • Lighting retrofit, lighting control, and photometric studies for energy savings
  • Lightning protection/grounding
  • Power factor correction
  • Over-Current Protection/Coordination, Short-Circuit, and Arc flash studies
  • Explosion-proof installations
  • Building power and control systems
  • Renewable energy consulting

Facility managers and contractors working with healthcare, education, religious, and other organizations are responsible for more than just the safe wiring of a building. The power the building consumes this year and next directly impacts patient care, student safety, or employee performance.

Trusted electrical engineers for education, commercial, and industrial operations

Electrical upgrades often come in tandem with other mechanical building system work, like new plumbing, air-conditioning and heating, and intercom systems.

Since 1977, R.E. Dimond has consulted on dozens of electrical, mechanical, and building system projects.

Frequently asked questions about electrical engineering, systems, and controls

Our electrical engineering team works closely with clients to go beyond specific requirements, all through our tested design process without the need for oversight.

Plus, you can get answers to the most common questions before, during, and after a building’s renovation or retrofit.

Can we get a facility and energy assessment to estimate savings or costs?

Yes! R.E. Dimond has produced dozens of facility and energy assessments. For most projects in Indiana, solar is the most environmentally sustainable way of creating efficient savings within ten years. However, some project requirements may require the use of other technology.

Can you tell me how many lightbulbs we’d have to replace to notice savings on our energy bill?

It sounds insignificant, but yes! Our electrical engineering teams can identify ways to replace or retrofit existing lighting to save you money. In addition, by analyzing your building’s historical usage we can identify ways new technology — like LED bulbs — can work in tandem with lighting control, motion sensors, and renewable sources.

What are Arc Flash Studies and do we need one?

Any energized electrical system with a buildup of dust or corrosion, insulation issues, or an old insulation system that can no longer withstand the voltage it receives is at risk for an arc flash. Like lightning, an arc flash releases electrical energy and heat that can cause severe burns and death.

Short circuit studies are similar in scope. Short circuit studies measure the amount of abnormal currents flowing throughout a power system at various time intervals after a “fault” occurs.

Arc flash and short circuit studies are done on equipment to determine the risk of injury.

The studies give you actionable recommendations for arc flash protection and improved circuit reliability. R.E. Dimond can also instruct your team and staff about the present dangers and arc flash safety.

What is power factor correction and do I need it?

Power factor calculations help improve the existing power factor in a plant or system. These calculations measure the ratio of real power to apparent power. By maintaining a high power factor, you can avoid costly energy bills. They can also improve voltage profiles and reduce power failures.

One of our electrical engineers can help you identify the potential value of power factor correction studies.
