Building Project Summary
Rose Hulman envisioned a new academic building on campus that would provide collaborative workspaces, design studios, flexible classrooms, chemistry laboratories, and faculty innovation spaces. The 3-story building includes student project space and shop/maker spaces on level one, classrooms and interdisciplinary labs on level two, and replacement chemistry labs for both research and teaching on level three.
R.E. Dimond and Associates was challenged with maintaining energy efficiency through the Window into Rose glass building, while utilizing 100% outside air to accommodate the exhaust hoods in the chemistry and biochemistry labs.
Creative MEP design included tapping into and upsizing an adjacent multi-building chiller plant, tapping into an adjacent boiler plant, upgrading multiple building water softening systems, and addition of life safety generators, and communication infrastructure. The building is under review as Indiana’s first WELL AP certified design and includes all ergonomic, technology, and operational protocols that provide that distinction. As a result of detailed engineering, R.E. Dimond was also able to secure utility rebates for Rose Hulman.
