Expanding library access and building comfort for a growing community
In Spring 2019, the Avon Public Library, just west of Indianapolis in Hendricks County, sought an expansion of their existing library. Plans called for a much-needed renovation of their administrative office and the addition of a single story.
R.E. Dimond and Associates worked with the architecture team to create an environment that is playful, inviting, and ready to grow with the future needs of Avon.
- Project: Avon Public Library
- Location: 498 N Avon Ave., Avon, IN 46123
- Client: Avon-Washington Township Public Library
- Project size: 9,100 SF
- Goal: Improve lighting, security, and networking, and plumbing
Expanding security, safety, and comfort for every library user
8,000 SF of space inside the existing administrative building was renovated to include new networking and data switches, cabling, and VOIP telephony.
Another 1,100 SF was added to the building, greatly expanding the library’s programming and shelving space. To help protect patrons and its expanding collection of materials, new security camera and fire protection systems were added.
Playful and inviting LED lighting was added or replaced throughout the entire building, giving clean, bright light in addition to the expansive windows and natural light designed into the space.
New DX cooling coils were replaced along with new piping, providing a scalable HVAC system for the entire library.
