Indiana State University’s CHHS houses a natatorium for its academic programs, its women’s intercollegiate athletics, and student recreation. Since the dated pool and decking did not meet current building codes or today’s or esthetic standards, ISU included a complete pool area renovation as part of the CHHS facility renovation which included major upgrades to improve temperature control and air quality with complete replacement of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems.
Construction Cost: $3,500,000
Size: 9,000 SF
Construction Completed: Summer 2014
Building Project Summary:
R.E. Dimond and Associates redesigned the Shelbyville High school Natatorium to have a 6 lane 25 yard stretch pool for today’s competitive use. The construction includes a 42′ extension of the west wall of the pool area, and expansion of the pool to an 8 lane 115′ long tank. The north wall of the pool area was moved into the existing locker room area to create space for spectator seating. A pool equipment room was newly constructed and is located on the north side, toward the west end of the pool. All work is within the existing pool area, locker room, existing pool equipment room and site, west and south of the addition.
9,000 SF Addition
Family Pool Addition
R.E. Dimond and Associates assisted the Monroe County YMCA of Bloomington by adding a Family Pool area to their existing structure. The team designed the plumbing systems, an extension of the fire suppression system and an HVAC system utilizing a dedicated pool unit capable of dehumidification and heat reclaim.
The electrical design included a new lighting system, and designing the power system to accommodate more power coming into the facility in addition to the extension of the existing fire alarm systems.
Expansion of the Monroe County YMCA
The Monroe County YMCA and IU Health chose to expand and reach the Northwest section of the county. The project was done in two phases.
