Electric Vehicle (EV) charger installation

EV chargers used in the United States

In the United States, EV charging stations come in three classes:

  • Level 1, or residential chargers common in homes at 120 volts.
  • Level 2, or light commercial chargers operating at 240 volts.
  • Level 3, or high-demand fast charging.

The EV industry is changing rapidly, and Level 2 has emerged as the most stable, safe, and beneficial charging standard outside of residential homes. These charging stations take about 5-6 hours to completely charge an EV battery to full, but are helpful in shopping centers, parking garages, convention centers, hotels, and dense urban parking districts. Level 2 charging stations offer the best value for owners and EV drivers.

R.E. Dimond and Associates will:

  • Fully audit your existing infrastructure, if any
  • Make recommendations for new or upgraded equipment, if any
  • Develop plans for mounting charging stations, usually wall-mounted, freestanding, or underground
  • Design a safe, usable area for patrons
  • Document all safety, technical, and maintenance requirements for the stations

Tax benefits may be available for EV chargers

R.E. Dimond and Associates engineers can help you design stations that meet your budget, and electrical needs, and provide durable, network-connected EV charging stations designed to meet local requirements.

EV systems can sometimes provide rebates and incentives from local utilities and governments. Ask an engineer about local rebates and incentives for the latest information this tax year.
