Building Project Summary:
R.E. Dimond and Associates provided MEP design services for the expansion and modernization of Indiana State University’s College of Health and Human Services, the former Arena Building, built in the 1960’s.
Challenges included improving temperature control and air quality with complete replacement of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology systems in existing building, as well as new systems in the addition.
The central system required removal of the air cooled chiller and addition of two building distribution pumps to circulate campus chilled water. The existing steam to hot water system was removed and new heat exchangers were utilized in the existing mechanical mezzanine. A new DDC control system was connected to campus control system. The building addition was provided with an energy efficient variable air volume system. Design for the existing building renovation utilized an existing AHU system with addition of a new central station air handling unit, ductwork, terminal units, diffusers and piping with zoning for new room layout.
