Building Project Summary:
St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church added a new sanctuary to their site in 2004. This project included a 47,000 square foot sanctuary that seats 1,500 and also provides a 100 seat daily chapel, narthes and ancillary spaces.
Engineering services provided by R.E. Dimond and Associates included HVAC and plumbing design, lighting, power and data design and fire suppression and life safety system design.
Measures Implemented:
Design included an energy efficient heating and cooling system with air handling units delivering air via variable air volume zones. A major challenge was to deliver air to the large volume sanctuary with no detectable air movement across the parishioner and no perceivable noise. Both were accomplished.
In addition to the mechanical design, a complete electrical system was designed for the new church. This system included lighting, a lighting protection system, sound system and fire alarm system.
