Building Project Summary:
R.E. Dimond and Associates provided the complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for the 27,500 square foot surgery suite addition with five operating rooms, endoscopy suites, pre-op/post-op and a main entry for patient check-in. The project also included an 11,000 square foot remodel of an existing surgery suite to be converted to a new OB suite. The complex design included a complete analysis and evaluation of all existing infrastructure to verify adequate capacity to support surgery addition. The project also included a 400 ton chiller and cooling tower.
Measures Implemented:
R.E. Dimond’s role was particularly challenging in this project. Utilities needed to be extended from the campus power plant to the Operating Room when there was no way to extend through the existing building because of space restraints. R.E. Dimond designed a horizontal chase along the hospital exterior for steam, chilled water, domestic hot and cold water, and fire protection systems.
Additional electrical distribution for emergency (critical, life safety and equipment) and normal power was designed. New lighting was also incorporated into the project. A baby abduction alarm system was designed as well as a new fire alarm system.
