Building Project Summary:
R.E. Dimond and Associates provided MEP design services for the renovation of Indiana State University’s Hulman Center. The Hulman Center has played host to concerts, university functions, and Sycamore basketball since its opening in the early 1970s.
The renovation provides a major entrance pavilion expansion, a new façade envelope, and a complete mechanical system update.
Design expanded the Hulman Center footprint to include a 10,000 sq. ft. grand welcome lobby pavilion. Interior renovations of the main floor include widening the entire concourse. This much-needed width allows new windows, newly arranged restrooms, new concession, new box office suite, emergency medical triage suite, and retail amenity areas. A decrease in arena capacity from 10,000 to 9,200 seats allows for a Varsity Club Suite, a Vista Overlook, and the introduction of an elevator and escalator access to and from the lower event level 25’ below. The upper arena bowl will also see the replacement of 4,000 seats and new lighting and HVAC systems. Renovations of the lower bowl at the event level include new concessions and restrooms, locker room and training facility renovations, and new building systems and cabling upgrades for modern production broadcasting.
