Construction Cost:
$5,500,000
Size:
80,000 SF
Building Project Summary:
R.E. Dimond was engaged to upgrade the mechanical and electrical systems in Jones Hall, a ten story residence hall at Indiana State University.
The complete renovation included adding private baths and air conditioning to the student rooms. The building HVAC systems were improved with the addition of a central chiller, energy recovery wheel and a computerized management system.
Measures Implemented:
The challenge was to heat a building built in the 1960’s with overhead heat and deliver comfort at low cost. Services included specialized design using fan coils, diffusers and an energy wheel to reclaim energy from exhaust air. R.E. Dimond tested and designed a diffuser that would heat the air in the exterior wall with minimal difference between floor and ceiling. This project established a campus standard for future upgrades and new building control systems. R.E. Dimond also provided an analysis of existing conditions with both feasibility and cost studies.
