Building Project Summary:
This project included the complete replacement of the HVAC system for the 262,000 square foot facility along with all associated ductwork, air handlers, a cooling tower and chillers. In addition to the HVAC system, the remodel included all new lighting, new chiller, electrical service, modified existing sprinkler system, total restroom remodel, security and card access systems addition and fire alarm system upgrades.
Measures Implemented:
Because of the extent of this remodel, the project is being completed in several phases with the final construction completion date estimated to be in the summer of 2010. Special design consideration was given to the IPS Crispus Attucks Museum which is located in the rear of the Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High school. The museum requires precise humidity control in order to preserve the artifacts that are part of the school’s heritage.
The lighting in the building is controlled by motion sensors which in turn are used for occupancy control of the HVAC system. These sensors will result in a significant energy savings for the Indianapolis Public School System.
