Size 34,000 SF historic renovation
Construction Completion 2020
Building Project Summary
The American Legion’s national headquarters was originally located on a five-city block plaza in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 777 N. Meridian Street building is one of the buildings in the Historic District and was renovated to serve as the Indiana Veterans Center. The structure needed a transformative renovation while still preserving all the details of its 1920’s significance and architecture.
R.E. Dimond and Associates was challenged to renovate and modernize this historic neoclassical structure, built with Indiana limestone, with updated and energy efficient heating, air conditioning, fire suppression, plumbing, and technology for re-purposed office building use, in the heart of downtown Indy.
The 34,000 SF building was designed for energy efficiency with replacement systems that use chiller and steam space conditioning and de-humidification. Four pipe fan coil units were concealed in the ceiling and innovative installation of supply and return grilles helped minimize alterations to the historic building. Electrical design included new power, updated LED fixtures, and automation controls for energy savings. Domestic water and a fire suppression system add important safety systems to the structure and advanced technology networks
