Building information modeling (BIM) software helps mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers keep design data coordinated, minimize errors, and experience enhanced collaboration with engineering and architecture teams.
Case Study of BIM impact on a renovation project:
Pickerl Hall – Complete Renovation
Indiana State University
The renovation of Pickerl Residence Hall located on Indiana State University’s Terre Haute campus included adding 120 private baths to the 1960’s structure. With an extremely tight ceiling clearance of approximately 12 inches, the configuration of piping and ventilation had to be incredibly concise. Each restroom group was accurately modeled using BIM software to ensure coordination between trades and to maximize installation efficiency. The contractor actually assembled the piping off site and easily incorporated it into the structure streamlining the construction process.
